Elder brother Jan Tinbergen is Economics Nobelist, 1969, the first year the Economics prize was awarded. Both awarded at age 66yrs.

Nikolaas Tinbergen used his Nobel Prize money to help others conduct research. To help the Hooke Library buy books, he donated £1000. The Hooke Library is the lending library of Oxford University for science subjects. It is named after the 17th century Oxford scientist, Robert Hooke.
